Killeen, Texas – Dangerous storms could slam Central Texas on Tuesday, with the National Weather Service warning of a “severe” threat zone stretching from Killeen to Waco by the afternoon.

According to the NWS Fort Worth office, strong to severe thunderstorms are likely from Tuesday morning through late afternoon, with the most intense activity expected across Bell, McLennan, and surrounding counties. Hazards include large hail, damaging winds, flash flooding, and an isolated tornado risk—particularly in the Killeen area, which sits under the highest threat level on the latest storm map.

Morning storms may begin near the DFW Metroplex and Sherman, bringing moderate impacts, but intensify as they move southeast. By midday, areas including Waco, Palestine, and Canton may see heavier rain and hail, with travel disruptions likely on I-35 and U.S. 190. Power outages and tree damage are possible in areas with stronger wind gusts.

Residents are urged to avoid flooded roadways, charge electronic devices, and monitor multiple alert systems. This storm system could shift quickly, and emergency managers stress readiness for sudden changes.

The severe threat is expected to taper off by Tuesday evening, but additional watches or warnings may be issued throughout the day. Stay alert for updates from local officials and NWS.
