Detroit, Michigan – Rain and scattered thunderstorms will move into southeast Michigan by Thursday afternoon, creating slick travel conditions just as temperatures surge into the 70s.

According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, a steady warm-up will continue through midweek, with highs climbing from the 40s Tuesday into the 60s Wednesday and peaking between 54°F and 72°F Thursday. Moisture increases quickly Thursday afternoon, with rain chances rising to around 60% across Metro Detroit, Ann Arbor, and Flint.

Drivers along I-94, I-75, and M-59 should prepare for wet pavement and reduced visibility beginning after 4 p.m. Thursday, with scattered thunderstorms possible into the evening hours. While widespread severe weather is not expected, brief downpours and lightning could disrupt the evening commute.

Cities including Dearborn, Troy, and Pontiac may see periods of steady rain Thursday night, while areas closer to Lake Erie could experience slightly milder conditions due to lake influence. The rapid warm-up may also lead to fog development in spots where moisture lingers overnight.

Residents should plan for changing conditions Thursday afternoon, allow extra travel time, and keep devices charged in case of isolated outages. Additional updates will follow if storm coverage increases later Thursday.
