Detroit, MI – Rain and snow will move into southeast Michigan tonight, followed by colder, wintry weather through early next week, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Detroit/Pontiac.
Forecasters say a mix of rain and wet snow will arrive overnight into Sunday morning, with any early accumulations melting quickly. As colder air settles in later Sunday, additional snow showers are expected Sunday afternoon through Monday, bringing the region its first taste of winter conditions.
“Some accumulation is possible with particular focus across the Thumb shoreline areas, where localized 2 to 5 inches may occur from lake effect snow bands,” the NWS said. The heaviest snow is expected near the Lake Huron coast from Port Huron to Bad Axe.
Temperatures will drop sharply by Monday, with highs only in the 30s and wind chills in the teens. Flurries and snow showers may linger into Monday night before tapering off by Veterans Day.
Drivers are urged to use caution, especially in lake effect zones and rural areas where slick spots could develop during heavier bursts of snow.
