Detroit, Michigan – Widespread light snow is expected to overspread Southeast Michigan tonight, creating potentially hazardous travel conditions during the Wednesday morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, a fast-moving clipper system will bring accumulating snowfall to the region late tonight through Wednesday afternoon. Snow totals are expected to range from 1 to 3 inches across much of Southeast Michigan, with the most impactful period occurring between the early morning hours and mid-morning Wednesday.

The heaviest snowfall is expected across the core of the metro area, including Detroit, Pontiac, Ann Arbor, Flint, Howell, and Port Huron, where totals of 2 to 3 inches are likely. Areas farther south toward Monroe and Adrian may see slightly lower amounts closer to 1 to 2 inches. While snowfall rates will generally be light, steady accumulation during the morning commute could quickly lead to slick and snow-covered roads.

Major travel corridors such as I-75, I-94, I-96, and M-59 could see reduced speeds and longer travel times, especially before road crews can fully treat surfaces. Bridges and overpasses will be particularly vulnerable to icing early Wednesday.

Drivers are urged to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and use caution during the morning commute. Snow tapers off later Wednesday, but cold temperatures will linger, allowing icy spots to persist into the afternoon. Additional updates or advisories may be issued if snowfall trends higher overnight.
