Phoenix, Arizona – A major pattern change will sweep across Arizona this weekend, bringing gusty winds, isolated showers, and a sharp temperature drop starting Saturday and continuing into early next week.

According to the National Weather Service in Phoenix, a low-pressure system will move through the Desert Southwest, knocking daytime highs down by 15 to 20 degrees by Sunday. After several days of near-normal temperatures, the Valley is expected to top out in the low 70s—more than 10 degrees below seasonal averages. Cooler conditions will persist into early next week.

In central and southern Arizona, including cities like Phoenix, Casa Grande, and Tucson, residents should prepare for breezy to windy conditions beginning late Saturday. Gusts may exceed 30 mph in exposed areas. The system could also trigger isolated showers across the region, especially on Sunday.

Travelers should watch for reduced visibility due to blowing dust on highways like I-10 and I-8. Outdoor plans may need adjusting, especially for those in open desert areas. Officials urge people to secure loose objects and avoid high-profile vehicle travel during peak gusts.

This pattern marks one of the coolest early May weekends in recent years. Additional updates or advisories may be issued as the system progresses into Monday.
