Denver, CO – A significant snowstorm is set to hit the Denver area late Friday, bringing hazardous conditions and freezing temperatures. Residents should prepare for snow-covered roads and the potential for flash freeze, creating dangerous travel conditions on Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), snow will intensify Friday evening, with 3 to 6 inches of accumulation expected in most areas. Higher elevations, particularly near the foothills, could see up to 8 inches. Winds will gust as high as 30 mph along the I-25 corridor, worsening visibility and increasing the risk of slick roads.
Temperatures will plunge to a low of 9°F overnight Friday, with highs on Saturday struggling to reach 17°F. Road surfaces are expected to freeze quickly during the evening commute, especially in Denver, Boulder, and Fort Collins.
Drivers are urged to avoid unnecessary travel tonight and tomorrow. For updated road conditions, check www.cotrip.org or dial 511.
Looking ahead, Sunday will remain frigid, with a high near 17°F and lows dipping below zero by evening. Light snow is likely to persist into Sunday night. Martin Luther King Jr. Day will see a slight reprieve, with a 50% chance of snow before 11 a.m., followed by partly sunny skies. Temperatures will climb to 8°F on Monday night, followed by a warmer, sunny Tuesday, with a high of 37°F.
Residents should bundle up and stay informed as conditions develop. Updates will be issued as new information becomes available.
