Duluth, MN – A powerful cold front is sweeping across northern Minnesota today, bringing a 20% chance of snow squalls and gusty winds along the North Shore. Residents near US Highway 2 and Lake Superior should prepare for rapidly changing visibility and bitter cold temperatures.

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, snow squalls could reduce visibility to less than 1/4 mile for short periods, creating hazardous travel conditions. Winds from the northwest are expected to reach speeds of 20-25 mph, with gusts up to 45 mph. Temperatures will drop into the low teens and single digits by this evening, creating wind chills as low as -15°F.

The weekend forecast warns of even colder conditions. Saturday brings continued blustery winds and a high near 0°F, with nighttime lows plunging to -15°F. Wind chills could dip to -30°F or lower, causing frostbite on exposed skin within 10 minutes.

Gale warnings remain in effect for western Lake Superior through Saturday morning, with wave heights up to 10 feet expected. Residents are advised to limit outdoor exposure, wear layers, and prepare vehicles for emergencies.

Looking ahead, Sunday will see partial clearing, but temperatures will remain dangerously cold, with a high of -8°F. Subzero wind chills will persist into early next week. Travelers should monitor road conditions and take extra precautions.
