Denver, Colorado – Heavy mountain snowfall will intensify this afternoon, bringing up to 15 inches along the I-70 corridor and as much as 20 inches in the Park Range by Thursday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Denver/Boulder, a prolonged winter weather system will impact the northern Colorado mountains through Thursday. The Park Range, including Rabbit Ears Pass, is under a Winter Storm Warning, with 6 to 15 inches expected and localized totals near 20 inches at higher elevations.

The Front Range Mountains, including areas near Rocky Mountain National Park and the Medicine Bow Range, are under a Winter Weather Advisory, with 4 to 10 inches forecast and isolated totals up to 15 inches north of Interstate 70.

Snowfall will be heavy at times, especially Wednesday evening into early Thursday morning, creating hazardous travel conditions.

Drivers along Interstate 70 through the Eisenhower Tunnel and Berthoud Pass, U.S. Highway 40 over Rabbit Ears Pass, U.S. Route 34 near Estes Park, and U.S. Highway 36 west of Boulder should prepare for snow-packed roads, reduced visibility, and slow travel during peak snowfall periods.

Lower elevations, including Denver and Fort Collins, will see lighter impacts, though slick conditions are possible in foothill communities.

The most significant travel disruptions are expected during the Wednesday evening and Thursday morning commutes in the mountains.
