Columbia, SC – Thick, widespread fog is creating hazardous driving conditions across South Carolina this morning, with visibility reduced to less than a quarter of a mile in several areas. A Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m., impacting key routes including Interstate 20 and U.S. 1.

According to the National Weather Service in Columbia, fog developed overnight and is expected to persist through the mid-morning hours. Drivers are urged to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and maintain extra distance between vehicles. Commuters on major roadways in Columbia, Lexington, and Aiken counties should exercise caution during their morning travel.

The remainder of Wednesday will bring mostly cloudy skies with a high near 72 degrees. Scattered thunderstorms may develop after 2 p.m., with a 30% chance of precipitation expected, particularly in the afternoon. New rainfall amounts will be light, but isolated thunderstorms could produce higher totals.

Thursday looks drier and brighter with partly sunny skies and highs in the low 60s. Northeast winds will pick up slightly, blowing around 6 mph, providing a refreshing shift after Wednesday’s unsettled conditions.

Heading into the weekend, conditions will improve significantly. Friday is expected to be mostly sunny with a high of 61 degrees, while Saturday will bring cooler temperatures, with highs near 51 and clear, crisp skies. Overnight lows will dip into the upper 20s by Saturday night, so residents should plan accordingly for chilly evenings.

For now, travelers are advised to remain vigilant this morning as dense fog continues to create hazardous conditions. Visibility will gradually improve after 10 a.m., but lingering moisture could still cause patchy fog in low-lying areas.
