Wilmington, Delaware – Heavy rain could drench the Philadelphia region and northern Delaware starting Friday night, with a flood watch now in effect through early Saturday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, periods of intense rainfall—between 1 to 3 inches over a 6 to 12-hour period—are expected from late Friday into Saturday. The flood watch covers New Castle County in Delaware and Pennsylvania’s Berks, Lehigh, Bucks, Chester, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties.

Low-lying and flood-prone areas, particularly near creeks and small streams, are at risk. Cities including Wilmington, Reading, Doylestown, and Norristown could experience street flooding and difficult travel conditions overnight. In West Chester and Media, storm drains may back up, and water levels could rise quickly.

Rain is expected to arrive by 8 p.m., intensifying overnight. Commuters should expect slippery roads by early Saturday. Residents are urged to avoid driving through flooded streets and to keep mobile devices charged in case of power outages.

Warnings remain in effect until 8 a.m. Saturday, with further advisories possible if rainfall rates intensify. Monitor alerts at weather.gov/safety/flood.
