Delaware starts March under a blanket of gray clouds, with damp pavement and a raw breeze sweeping across Wilmington. Temperatures sit near 40 degrees late this morning, and a few light showers drift through before skies slowly brighten.

According to the National Weather Service in Philadelphia, scattered showers remain possible through late morning before gradual clearing. Highs reach near 42 degrees with north winds around 10 mph. Roads stay mainly wet today, but colder air settles in quickly after sunset.

Temperatures fall to near 21 degrees tonight under mostly clear skies. That sharp drop sets the stage for refreezing where pavement stays damp. Early Monday commuters should watch for slick bridges along I-95 and Route 202.

Monday turns mostly sunny but chilly, with highs near 36. Clouds increase Monday night, and after 1 a.m. a wintry mix develops. Snow may mix with freezing rain toward daybreak Tuesday as lows dip to 27. Even light ice can create hazardous travel. Plan extra time for the Tuesday morning drive.

By Tuesday afternoon, precipitation changes to plain rain with highs near 44. Rain becomes steadier Tuesday night before tapering Wednesday. Highs jump to 57 Wednesday, offering a noticeable spring tease. Thursday pushes even warmer, near 68 degrees, signaling a warm spell building into the end of the week.

Clocks spring forward next Sunday at 2 a.m., bringing longer evenings and nearly 90 extra minutes of daylight this month. Longer-range trends favor above-normal temperatures into late next week.
