Wilmington, Delaware – A stormy stretch of spring weather is set to soak Delaware through midweek, with thunderstorms, heavy rain, and possible flooding starting Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service, scattered showers will develop Sunday morning before intensifying into widespread thunderstorms between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. A second round of storms could move through after 2 p.m., bringing up to a half-inch of rain, gusty winds, and minor street flooding in low-lying areas. Conditions will worsen Monday, with rain and thunderstorms continuing through Monday night and into Tuesday, holding rain chances near 90%.

Drivers along I-95, Route 202, and Route 141 should expect ponding and slower travel, especially during the Monday morning and evening commutes. DelDOT advises checking road conditions before leaving and avoiding flooded underpasses. Winds could also become gusty during heavier cells, causing reduced visibility and potential tree limb damage.

Tuesday and Wednesday will remain cloudy with a lingering chance of rain, especially during the morning hours. Drier air may begin to return by late Thursday, with temperatures hovering in the low to mid-70s throughout the period.
