Wilmington, DE – A strong coastal storm is pushing through Delaware today, bringing heavy rain, gusty winds, and widespread tidal flooding along the Delaware River and Bay. The National Weather Service has extended a Coastal Flood Warning until 9 p.m. Monday, urging residents to stay alert and avoid flooded roads.

According to the National Weather Service Mount Holly office, areas of New Castle, Kent, and northern Sussex counties could see one to two feet of inundation above ground level in low-lying zones. Commuters using I-95 and Route 13 should expect slower travel and ponding on roads during high tide this afternoon.

Flood-prone neighborhoods near Delaware City, New Castle, and Wilmington’s Riverfront may see minor to moderate flooding as high tides peak near 2 p.m. today. Officials warn against driving through flooded streets, as water depth can be deceptive and dangerous.

The system will move out late Monday night, ushering in calmer, cooler conditions. Tuesday and Wednesday are expected to be mostly sunny with highs in the upper 60s, perfect for fall leaf-viewing or pumpkin patch visits.

By Friday, temperatures climb back into the low 70s under clear skies, offering a pleasant setup for weekend outdoor plans.

Residents should continue monitoring updates from weather.gov/phi and local emergency alerts for changes in flood conditions.
