Dover, DE – Two people from Baltimore, Maryland, were arrested early Friday after Delaware State Police say two stolen vehicles led troopers on separate high-speed chases through Kent and Sussex counties.

According to Delaware State Police, troopers attempted a traffic stop around 5 a.m. on Friday after observing a blue Hyundai Sonata closely following a blue Hyundai Santa Fe on Bay Road near President Drive in Dover. Both vehicles, which had Maryland registration, fled south on Route 1. A check revealed both vehicles were reported stolen — the Santa Fe on June 18 and the Sonata earlier that morning.

The Santa Fe’s pursuit ended when it crashed into a wooded area near South Old State Road and Dupont Boulevard in Georgetown. The driver, 20-year-old Kyle Norman, was seriously injured and flown to a hospital. Passengers included 20-year-old Hailey Warren, a 13-year-old boy, and a 13-year-old girl. Warren and the minors were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. A trooper involved in the pursuit was also injured and taken to an area hospital. Police said a screwdriver, commonly used in car thefts, was found under the driver’s seat.

Simultaneously, a separate pursuit involving the Sonata ended when troopers deployed stop sticks on Route 1 near Cave Neck Road in Milton. The vehicle was later found abandoned in the parking lot of Shell We Bounce Trampoline Park in Lewes. Three individuals — identified as 32-year-old Jonathan Bennett, a 13-year-old girl, and a 10-year-old boy — were found nearby and taken into custody. A screwdriver was recovered from Bennett during a search.

Authorities determined Bennett was the front passenger, and the 10-year-old was driving during the pursuit. The 10-year-old could not be criminally charged under Delaware law. Bennett was charged with multiple offenses and is being held on $11,000 secured bond.
