Wilmington, Delaware – Drivers in Wilmington and along the Delaware River should brace for possible road closures through early Saturday morning as minor tidal flooding moves in during tonight’s high tide cycle.

According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, a Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect from 9 p.m. Friday through 2 a.m. Saturday for New Castle County, DE and Salem County, NJ, where up to one foot of water could inundate low-lying roads near tidal waterways. These conditions are expected to hit the most flood-prone streets, especially during high tide at Reedy Point, forecast to peak at 8.1 feet MLLW by late Friday night.

Roadways most at risk include River Road, parts of Delaware Street in New Castle, and low-lying sections near I-495 and Route 9. Localized flooding may also occur near neighborhood creeks and marshes. The public is urged not to drive through standing water, as the depth may be deceiving and could result in stranded vehicles or damage.

The advisory is set to expire early Saturday, but additional alerts are possible if tides remain elevated into the weekend. Coastal residents should monitor water.weather.gov and local alerts for updates.
