BOURBONNAIS, IL – Olivet Nazarene University is stepping up to ensure its local community is well-prepared to defend against cyber threats.

On Tuesday, October 10, the Walker School of Science, Engineering, Technology and Mathematics (STEM) at Olivet will host the Everyday Cyber Conference, a vital event for businesses, organizations, professionals, and students alike. The conference offers a beacon of hope. The Everyday Cyber Conference aims to equip attendees with essential tools and knowledge to safeguard their personal and professional online information.

This conference isn’t just another run-of-the-mill gathering; it’s a unique opportunity for local businesses and nonprofits to learn from industry experts. Distinguished sponsors, including BitLyft, Varonis, and Fortinet, along with law enforcement agencies, will be present to share their insights.

The event will feature keynote speakers and expert panels, boasting representation from the FBI and the Secret Service. Through these sessions, participants will gain invaluable insights into the ever-evolving landscape of cybersecurity, ensuring that they remain vigilant in the face of new threats.

Olivet Nazarene University’s dedication to cybersecurity education doesn’t end with this conference. The university is in the process of applying for designation as a Center for Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity from the National Security Administration (NSA). This distinction would affirm Olivet’s commitment to delivering top-tier cybersecurity education.

Ryan Manes, program assistant for computer science and director of esports at Olivet, emphasized the significance of this recognition, saying, “The NSA designation would just prove what we already know to be true: Olivet offers a high-level of education in the field of cybersecurity by covering a list of topics seen as high-priority by the industry.”

This federal designation would open doors to increased scholarships and research opportunities for students, solidifying Olivet’s reputation as a cybersecurity education leader.

The Everyday Cyber Conference is a free event, complete with lunch for attendees. Held at the Weber Leadership Center on Olivet’s campus from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., this conference promises to be an enlightening experience.
