Greenville, OH – A 17-year-old driver was injured early Monday morning after a single-vehicle rollover crash along U.S. Route 36 in Darke County, prompting an emergency response from multiple agencies.
According to the Darke County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called around 6:05 a.m. on Monday, May 4, to the 6100 block of U.S. 36, just outside Greenville in Greenville Township. Fire and rescue crews from Greenville Township and the City of Greenville also responded to the scene.
Preliminary findings indicate the teen, a Greenville resident, was driving a white Jeep Compass westbound when he allegedly fell asleep at the wheel. The vehicle drifted off the left side of the roadway, struck small trees, and collided with an embankment before overturning.
Emergency crews provided aid at the scene before transporting the driver to Wayne HealthCare for evaluation and treatment of possible injuries. The extent of those injuries has not been publicly released.
The crash temporarily impacted traffic in the area during the early morning commute, though officials have not specified the duration of any closures or delays.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident. No other vehicles were involved.
Drivers in Darke County are reminded to stay alert, especially during early morning hours when fatigue can significantly increase the risk of serious crashes.
