Des Moines, IA – Western Iowa is preparing for a significant heat wave this week, with temperatures and humidity levels expected to reach dangerous levels. The National Weather Service in Des Moines has issued a heat advisory, urging residents to take necessary precautions.

According to the National Weather Service, the heat index is forecasted to soar, with cities like Atlantic and Creston expecting heat indexes of up to 112°F on Tuesday and Wednesday. Des Moines is anticipated to experience a heat index of 107°F on Tuesday and 111°F on Wednesday. This prolonged period of intense heat increases the risk of heat-related illnesses, particularly for those spending extended time outdoors.

Meteorologists highlight that the heat wave is due to persist throughout the week, with some regions seeing slight relief by Friday. Despite possible rain and storm chances, temperatures are expected to remain high. Ames and Ottumwa will also face severe heat, with predicted heat indexes of up to 106°F on Wednesday.
