Fort Worth, Texas – Hot summer weather will dominate North Texas today, with afternoon temperatures climbing into the middle and upper 90s while only a small portion of the region has a chance of seeing a cooling thunderstorm. Most communities will remain dry, but anyone spending time outdoors should prepare for intense heat through the afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, high temperatures will range from 90 to 98 degrees across the region. Dallas-Fort Worth is expected to reach 98 degrees, while Sherman and Canton climb to 97 degrees, Palestine reaches 96 degrees, Bowie, Graham, Waco and Hearne top out near 95 degrees, Killeen reaches 94 degrees, and Cisco is forecast to hit 90 degrees.
Rain chances remain low for most of North Texas, with only a 10 to 15 percent chance of isolated afternoon thunderstorms across parts of the northeastern counties, including areas near Sherman and Paris. Any storm that develops could produce brief lightning, gusty winds and heavy downpours before quickly dissipating.
The National Weather Service is also reminding boaters that if thunderstorms begin to develop over area lakes, they should immediately head to shore or a safe harbor. Lightning can strike well ahead of a storm, making outdoor recreation dangerous even when skies appear mostly clear nearby.
Tonight will remain warm and humid, with overnight lows ranging from the lower 70s to upper 70s. Temperatures are expected to fall to 79 degrees at DFW, 78 in Sherman, 76 in Paris and Canton, 75 in Waco, and the lower 70s across western and southern portions of the region.
The hot pattern will continue into the new week, with even higher temperatures expected as strong high pressure builds across Texas. Residents should stay hydrated, limit strenuous outdoor activities during the afternoon and continue monitoring updates from the National Weather Service.
