Dallas, Texas – Drivers across the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex could hit sudden slowdowns on I-35E and I-30 by late Wednesday afternoon as strong storms fire along a stalled front and intensify before sunset.

According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop Wednesday afternoon and continue into the evening, with a few becoming strong to severe. The main window for severe weather runs from midafternoon through the evening commute, especially east and southeast of the stalled boundary.

Storms that strengthen may produce wind gusts up to 60 mph and hail up to 1 inch in diameter. Areas along I-20 toward Arlington and Mesquite, as well as US-75 through Plano and Richardson, face the highest risk for damaging winds. Brief heavy rainfall could also create ponding on roadways, particularly along low-lying stretches of I-45 and Loop 12.

The exact placement of the stalled front will determine which neighborhoods see the strongest storms. Communities southeast of downtown Dallas, including Hutchins and Seagoville, may sit closer to the corridor where severe cells develop.

Residents should secure loose outdoor items and ensure multiple ways to receive warnings, including weather apps and NOAA Weather Radio. Avoid parking under trees and be prepared to move indoors quickly if a warning is issued.

Storms should weaken later Wednesday night, but additional updates are possible if the front shifts. More advisories could be issued as conditions evolve through the evening.
