Fort Worth, Texas – Severe storms are expected to develop across North Texas late this afternoon, with the greatest risk between 5 p.m. and midnight when large hail and tornadoes could quickly disrupt travel and outdoor plans.
According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, storms will form along and north of the I-20 corridor, with the highest threat concentrated closer to the Red River. Forecasters warn that not all areas will see storms, but any storm that develops may become severe rapidly, producing hail larger than 3 inches, damaging wind gusts, and possible tornadoes.
Cities including Dallas, Fort Worth, Sherman, Paris, and Denton face the greatest concern during the evening hours. Major routes such as I-35, US-75, and I-30 could see sudden visibility drops and hazardous driving conditions as storms intensify. The most dangerous zone extends from Sherman to Paris, where the tornado risk is highest.
Residents should secure vehicles indoors if possible, avoid travel during storms, and have multiple ways to receive warnings. Do not shelter under overpasses during hail or high winds, and be ready to move to a sturdy interior room if warnings are issued.
Storms are expected to weaken after midnight, but additional updates are likely through the evening as conditions evolve across North Texas.
