Dallas, TX – An extreme cold watch has been issued for North and Central Texas from Tuesday evening through Thursday morning, with wind chills expected to drop as low as 10 degrees below zero.

According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, the dangerously cold temperatures could lead to hypothermia or frostbite on exposed skin without proper precautions. Major cities affected include Dallas, Fort Worth, Plano, Denton, Waco, and Arlington.

Residents are advised to dress in layers, including hats, gloves, and face masks when outdoors. Pets should be kept indoors, and outdoor animals provided with warm, dry shelters and unfrozen water. Vulnerable populations, such as the elderly, should be checked on frequently.

Portable heaters should be used safely, and generators or grills should never be used indoors due to carbon monoxide risks. The extreme cold could also strain energy resources and affect travel, especially during early morning hours.

The Arctic blast is expected to ease by late Thursday morning as temperatures gradually rise, but residents are urged to stay prepared and cautious during the cold snap.
