Crown Point, IN – A 23-year-old man was found shot and killed near a highway ramp in Crown Point on Friday.
According to the Lake County Coroner’s Office, officials responded to the US 231 southbound ramp to I-65 at 9:25 a.m. Investigators identified the victim as Nelson Daniel Ramos-Rivas through fingerprints and family confirmation. His address remains unknown.
A forensic autopsy took place at the Lake County Forensic Center later that day. The coroner’s report confirmed he died from a gunshot wound, ruling the case a homicide. Officials pronounced him dead at 9:59 a.m.
Authorities have not yet determined where the shooting occurred. The Indiana State Police are leading the investigation.
Detectives urge anyone with information to contact law enforcement.
