Eureka, CA — Lake County will experience critical fire weather conditions beginning Thursday, with dry northerly winds intensifying the fire risk. Winds are expected to range from 15-25 mph, with gusts reaching 45 mph, especially in eastern and southern areas. The National Weather Service issued a Fire Weather Watch, warning residents to prepare for rapidly changing conditions.
According to the National Weather Service, the winds will shift to a north-northeasterly direction Thursday night, continuing into Friday. Low humidity levels, ranging from 10-20% during the day and 20-40% at night, will further increase the fire threat. The highest risks are in areas with elevated terrain and the county’s southern portions.
Residents are urged to take precautions, secure emergency plans, and avoid open flames. The combination of strong winds and dry air could lead to rapid fire spread, especially in brush-heavy regions. The Fire Weather Watch will remain in effect until Saturday evening, with conditions expected to worsen before then.
