Medford, OR – A critical fire weather warning is in effect today for Southern Oregon, Northern California, and parts of Northwest Nevada. The National Weather Service (NWS) issued the alert due to an approaching weather system from the Pacific Northwest.

According to the NWS, this system will bring dry conditions and strong winds. Gusts are expected to reach 25 mph, creating an elevated fire risk across the region. The most affected areas include northeast California and southern Oregon, where the mid-level jet stream is expected to strengthen this afternoon.

Monsoonal moisture moving through the area may spark isolated thunderstorms. However, these storms are predicted to be dry, with minimal rainfall, increasing the likelihood of wildfires.

Fire officials urge residents to avoid activities that could ignite fires and to follow any local burn bans. The critical fire conditions are expected to persist through the evening, with the situation being closely monitored by local authorities.
