Corpus Christi, Texas – Swimmers along the South Texas coast should beware of dangerous rip currents today and through the Father’s Day weekend, especially near piers and jetties. High heat and strong surf are combining to make beach conditions riskier than usual.

According to the National Weather Service in Corpus Christi, a moderate rip current risk remains in effect as of Thursday morning, with wave heights reaching 3 to 5 feet and southerly winds near 20 mph. Water temperatures are in the mid-80s, but the UV index is very high, making prolonged sun exposure hazardous without protection.

Heat will also be a concern across the region through early next week, with highs ranging from 90°F along the coast to over 100°F inland. Rain chances are low to moderate (15–35%), mostly in the afternoons and evenings, driven by Gulf moisture.

Beachgoers are urged to stay out of the water near piers and jetties and to swim parallel to shore if caught in a rip current. Apply sunscreen frequently and stay hydrated in the heat.

Rip current risks and spotty storms may linger through the weekend. More updates are expected if beach conditions worsen.
