Corpus Christi, TX – Coastal flooding will intensify by 4 a.m. Sunday as elevated tides push water onto roads and low-lying areas, creating hazardous travel conditions along the Coastal Bend through the evening. Beach access roads and sections near Corpus Christi Bay could become impassable during peak high tide.
According to the National Weather Service in Corpus Christi, a Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect from 4 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, with water levels expected to reach around 2 feet above mean sea level. Persistent north-northeast winds may push water even higher, increasing flooding risk along inland bays and barrier islands.
Flood-prone areas include Nueces, Kleberg, San Patricio, Aransas, and Refugio counties. Communities such as Rockport, Port Aransas, and low-lying parts of Corpus Christi are most vulnerable. Shoreline roads, including portions of Highway 361 and local access roads near Padre Island, could see water covering pavement. Beach erosion is also possible, along with a moderate risk of rip currents.
Drivers should avoid flooded roadways and never attempt to pass through saltwater-covered streets. Residents and visitors are urged to move vehicles from vulnerable coastal areas and remain alert during high tide cycles. Conditions may change quickly with wind shifts.
Flooding concerns will persist through Sunday evening, with the next update expected if water levels rise beyond current projections or advisories are extended.
