Chicago, IL – A Riverdale man is facing multiple felony charges after authorities said a workplace argument escalated into a violent stabbing on the city’s West Side.

The incident unfolded in the South Austin neighborhood, where a 55-year-old man was injured and later transported to a hospital for treatment. Police said the suspect was taken into custody shortly after the incident.

According to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, the stabbing happened Monday night in the 4800 block of South Austin Avenue in unincorporated Stickney Township. Responding officers found the victim suffering from a stab wound to the arm. Investigators allege the suspect, identified as 58-year-old Carlos Williams of Riverdale, fled the scene in a vehicle before being stopped by officers a short distance away. Authorities said a knife was allegedly recovered in plain view inside the vehicle.

Detectives further allege that Williams and the victim, who were coworkers, had been arguing prior to the stabbing. The confrontation allegedly escalated, leading to the attack.

On Tuesday, prosecutors with the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office charged Williams with attempted murder, aggravated battery causing bodily harm, and aggravated battery involving the use of a deadly weapon. Officials repeatedly emphasized that the charges are allegations.

Williams appeared in court Wednesday and was ordered into the Chief Judge’s Pre-Trial Electronic Monitoring Program following his initial hearing at the Bridgeview Courthouse.

The case remains under investigation. Authorities have not released additional details about the condition of the victim.

Officials remind the public that all defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
