Homewood, IL – Residents across Homewood and southern Cook County are invited to help local families in need as the Village of Homewood and Homewood School District 153 open their annual Giving Tree program today, running through December 17.

According to the Village, the Giving Tree is located on the ground floor of Village Hall near the west entrance, where visitors can select a tag listing items requested by Homewood families. The community program, now in its 21st year, aims to ensure households facing hardship can still enjoy a warm and joyful holiday season.

The Village says donations of coats, shoes, clothing, toys, and books are most needed this year. Residents can return all gifts to Homewood Public Works, 17755 Ashland Avenue, Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Cash donations are also accepted and will be used to fulfill unmet wish-list items, according to organizers. The partnership with District 153 helps match donations to specific needs submitted by families within the district and broader Homewood community.

The Giving Tree remains one of the area’s most visible seasonal charity drives, drawing participation from individuals, civic groups, and local businesses. Village officials emphasize that even small contributions make a significant impact for families experiencing financial strain during the holidays.

Anyone with questions may contact program coordinator Lisa Jones at 708-206-2906.

Residents who have already visited this year’s tree are encouraged to share what they picked from the wish tags and how they plan to help spread holiday kindness.
