Hartford, Connecticut – A warmer and more humid weather pattern is expected across Connecticut from August 5–9, bringing above-average temperatures along with recurring chances for showers and thunderstorms. While dry periods are expected between systems, several rounds of rain could bring brief travel disruptions and interruptions to outdoor activities.
According to the Climate Prediction Center’s 6–10 Day Outlook issued July 30, Connecticut is favored to experience above-normal temperatures and above-normal precipitation during the outlook period. The climate signal supports a stretch of warmer-than-average conditions accompanied by multiple opportunities for showers and thunderstorms across the state.
Hartford and Bridgeport are expected to see temperatures climb above early August averages, while communities including New Haven, Stamford, Waterbury, Danbury, Norwich, and New London may experience scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms. Some storms could produce brief heavy downpours, frequent lightning, gusty winds, and localized ponding on roadways, especially along Interstate 84, Interstate 91, Interstate 95, and the Merritt Parkway.
The combination of heat and higher humidity will make conditions feel more oppressive at times, particularly in the Connecticut River Valley and across the more urbanized areas of southwestern Connecticut. Residents heading to Long Island Sound beaches, parks, or outdoor events should remain alert for rapidly changing weather and be prepared to seek shelter if thunderstorms develop.
