Connecticut – A prolonged winter storm brought widespread heavy snowfall across Connecticut from January 23 through January 26, with top totals exceeding 18 inches, according to compiled storm reports.

The highest snowfall total reported in the state was 18.2 inches in Coventry, 1 mile southwest, making it the snowiest reported location in Connecticut during the multi-day event. Several other communities recorded totals near or above 18 inches, underscoring the storm’s broad impact.

Additional high-end snowfall reports include 18.0 inches in Eastford (2 miles northwest), Glastonbury (1 mile northwest), and Simsbury (1 mile southeast). West Hartford recorded 17.0 inches, while Cheshire (4 miles southwest) and Naugatuck (4 miles east-northeast) also reported 17.0 inches.

Snowfall totals of 16 inches or more were widespread across central and northern Connecticut. Salem (4 miles east) measured 16.3 inches, while Meriden and Northville (1 mile north-northeast) each reported 16.0 inches.

Snow fell steadily over multiple days rather than in a single burst, allowing accumulations to build gradually and placing prolonged strain on road crews and emergency services. Travel conditions deteriorated across major corridors including Interstates 84, 91, and Route 2, particularly during overnight and early morning periods.

Cleanup operations continued into early week as cold temperatures limited melting and allowed snowpack to persist. Narrowed roadways, snow-covered sidewalks, and reduced visibility at intersections remained concerns even after snowfall ended.

The January 23–26 storm ranks among the most significant snow events of the season for Connecticut, contributing substantially to above-normal seasonal snowfall totals statewide.
