Worcester, MA – May 2025 delivered one of the wettest months on record across southern New England, with Worcester logging its second wettest May in history and Hartford and Providence not far behind.

According to the National Weather Service in Boston, Worcester measured 8.50 inches of rain, more than double its monthly average of 3.56 inches. Hartford recorded 8.23 inches and Providence 8.05 inches—each city marking its third wettest May on record. No snowfall was observed, and temperatures hovered near or slightly above seasonal norms.

Worcester saw a high of 82°F on May 3 and a low of 40°F on May 22. The city’s greatest daily rainfall, 2.07 inches, also occurred May 22. Hartford hit a monthly high of 85°F and Providence 79°F, both on May 3.

Soaking rains caused saturated soil and minor flooding in low-lying areas. Commuters across the region faced frequent wet pavement delays and localized ponding. Residents were advised to keep sump pumps and drains clear and prepare for heavier-than-usual mosquito activity heading into June.

More rain could follow early in the new month as another front moves through by midweek. Check NWS alerts for updates on any flood advisories in your area.
