Buffalo, N.Y. – Gardeners in Western New York should take frost precautions tonight as temperatures fall into the upper 30s, prompting a Frost Advisory in parts of the Southern Tier.

According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, clear skies and light winds will allow temperatures to plummet overnight, with lows ranging from 36°F to 46°F across the region. A Frost Advisory is in effect for Cattaraugus and Allegany counties, where temperatures as low as 36°F could damage sensitive vegetation.

Residents in Jamestown, Olean, and Wellsville are urged to protect plants by covering them or bringing them indoors. Low temperatures of 37°F–39°F are possible in these areas. Further north, cities like Buffalo, Batavia, and Rochester will see lows in the low to mid-40s, with less risk of frost but still cooler-than-average conditions for June 1.

This is the first frost advisory issued in the region since early spring. While no travel impacts are expected, those with early morning plans should dress in layers.

The Frost Advisory remains in effect through early Monday morning. Updates will be issued if conditions change overnight.
