Columbus, Ohio — A strong storm system could bring severe weather and heavy rainfall across parts of Ohio Tuesday night into Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, dry conditions are expected Monday before a more active weather pattern develops as storms move through the region beginning Tuesday.
Forecasters say severe weather will be possible Tuesday night and again on Wednesday, with different threats during each period.
On Tuesday night, hail is expected to be the primary hazard if stronger storms develop. By Wednesday, the main threat shifts to damaging wind gusts, though isolated hail or a brief tornado cannot be ruled out.
In addition to severe weather potential, heavy rainfall may lead to flooding concerns, especially where repeated storms move across the same areas.
Rainfall totals of 1 to 2 inches are expected across parts of Ohio through Thursday morning, including communities such as Columbus, Dayton, Cincinnati, Wilmington and Lancaster.
Outside of thunderstorms, gusty winds are also expected across the region Wednesday, with forecast peak wind gusts potentially reaching 35 to 45 mph in some areas.
Residents are encouraged to stay weather aware and monitor forecasts, particularly Tuesday night when storms may develop after dark.
For commuters, students and shift workers, storms could affect late Tuesday travel and the Wednesday morning commute across central and southwest Ohio.
