Lake City, FL – A failed home invasion robbery in a Columbia County neighborhood Sunday morning ended with four people in custody after a homeowner refused to open the door and quickly alerted authorities.
According to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened Sunday around 9:15 a.m. on NE Moody Court, just outside Lake City. Deputies say a homeowner heard a loud knock at the front door and, after looking through a window, saw an unknown man allegedly pointing a handgun and demanding entry.
Investigators say the homeowner refused to open the door as the suspect attempted to kick it in multiple times. When those efforts failed, deputies said the suspects allegedly broke front windows in an attempt to gain entry before fleeing the scene in two vehicles.
The homeowner called 911 and provided deputies with vehicle descriptions, including a silver Nissan and a red Ford Expedition. Through neighborhood canvassing and witness statements, deputies identified a female suspect, later named as Pamela Lynn Roach, 55, the registered owner of the red SUV.
Deputies responded to a home on SW Kemp Court where both vehicles were located. Two male suspects were identified as Shawn F. Holt, 39, and Walter Shane Slaughter, 26, both of whom allegedly matched clothing seen in home security footage from the attempted robbery.
Authorities say a Sig Sauer P365 9mm and a Savage Arms .380 handgun believed to have been used in the incident were recovered from inside the residence.
During the investigation, deputies also located Jimmy Raymond Dumas, 32, hiding under a tarp in an outbuilding. According to the sheriff’s office, Dumas had an active probation violation warrant and was taken into custody on unrelated charges.
Roach, Holt, and Slaughter were arrested on home invasion robbery with a firearm charges. Dumas was arrested on a violation of probation. All four were booked into the Columbia County Detention Facility and are being held without bond.
The investigation remains ongoing.
