Pueblo, CO – A powerful spring snowstorm is set to blanket parts of southern and central Colorado through Saturday evening, with up to 14 inches expected in some high-elevation areas.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 5 p.m. MDT Saturday for multiple mountain zones, including Chaffee, Lake, Fremont, Teller, Saguache, and El Paso counties. Snowfall began early Friday morning and will continue intermittently through the weekend.
Accumulations will range from 6 to 12 inches above 9,000 feet, with localized totals reaching 14 inches around Pikes Peak, the Rampart Range, and parts of Teller County. Lower elevations like Northern El Paso County, including Black Forest, could see 3 to 5 inches by midday Saturday.
Winds could gust up to 45 mph, reducing visibility and creating hazardous road conditions, particularly during the Friday morning and evening commutes. Travelers along U.S. 50, U.S. 24, and mountain passes such as North Pass and Monarch Pass should use extreme caution.
Residents are advised to delay non-essential travel, slow down on icy roads, and monitor CDOT updates via 511. This storm, though not uncommon in April, could rival past late-season snow events across the Colorado Rockies.
