New Haven, CT – A cold snap overnight is prompting weather officials to issue a frost advisory across parts of southern Connecticut.

According to the National Weather Service in New York, temperatures are expected to dip as low as 33 degrees Fahrenheit between 2 a.m. and 8 a.m. Friday. The advisory covers Southern New Haven, Southern Middlesex, and Southern New London Counties, along with Northeast and Southeast Suffolk Counties in New York.

Officials warn that these conditions may result in frost formation, potentially damaging or killing sensitive outdoor vegetation. Residents are urged to cover or bring in any unprotected plants ahead of the advisory window.

Frost advisories are uncommon this late in April, especially for coastal regions. However, recent clear skies and calm winds have created ideal conditions for a temperature drop overnight.

Gardeners and homeowners are advised to use breathable coverings or bring potted plants indoors before 2 a.m. Friday. Even brief exposure to frost can cause irreversible damage to early spring plantings.

The advisory will expire at 8 a.m. Friday, when temperatures are expected to rebound. For additional updates and preparedness tips, residents can visit weather.gov/nyc.
