Colorado — Cold air drifts quietly across the Front Range this New Year’s morning, with clouds hugging the foothills and a faint chill settling into valleys. While Pueblo and Colorado Springs stay mostly dry early, changes are already lining up just west of town.
Light snow develops later today along and west of the Continental Divide. Accumulations remain minor at first, but conditions worsen into Friday. The National Weather Service expects snow totals near 1 to 4 inches in higher elevations, with locally higher amounts across parts of the Central Mountains and San Juan Range.
For Pueblo and Colorado Springs, today stays mostly cloudy and seasonably cool. Highs reach the lower 60s in Pueblo and near 62 in Colorado Springs. Roads remain dry for now, but drivers heading west toward mountain passes should prepare for slick travel by evening.
Friday brings a sharper contrast. Sunshine returns east of the mountains, with highs near 59 in Pueblo and Colorado Springs. Meanwhile, snow continues in the high country, creating hazardous conditions over passes and exposed routes. Gusty winds may reduce visibility during snow bursts.
Plan extra time if traveling toward the Divide or higher elevations Friday. Snowpacked roads and brief whiteout conditions are possible in favored areas. Keep emergency gear handy and monitor updates closely.
The weekend turns quieter across the plains. Saturday stays mostly sunny with highs near 59, followed by a breezy and warmer Sunday near 67. Nights remain cold, and refreezing could create isolated slick spots after sunset.
Looking ahead, light snow chances return to the mountains early next week. Pueblo and Colorado Springs remain mostly dry but cooler, keeping winter travel risks nearby.
