Grand Junction, CO – A powerful winter storm is set to impact western Colorado and eastern Utah, bringing heavy snowfall and strong winds from Thursday morning through Friday evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, winter weather advisories remain in effect for multiple mountain ranges, including the Eastern Uinta Mountains, Grand and Battlement Mesas, West Elk and Sawatch Mountains, and the San Juan Mountains. Snowfall accumulations are expected to range between 6 and 12 inches, with localized higher totals possible. Wind gusts could reach 60 mph in some areas, leading to blowing snow and reduced visibility.
The advisory begins at 6 a.m. Thursday for the Eastern Uinta Mountains and will remain in effect until noon Friday for elevations above 8,500 feet. Meanwhile, the Grand and Battlement Mesas, along with the West Elk and Sawatch Mountains, will see heavy snowfall beginning at noon Thursday, lasting until 6 p.m. Friday.
The Uncompahgre Plateau, Dallas Divide, and parts of the San Juan Mountains will also be under a winter weather advisory starting Thursday afternoon, with hazardous travel conditions expected through Friday. The Roan and Tavaputs Plateaus will experience similar conditions, with snow and gusty winds potentially making travel difficult.
