Denver, CO – Drivers in Colorado’s high country are facing hazardous conditions as a winter storm continues to impact travel Monday. The heaviest snow and most difficult conditions are expected through the morning commute, particularly along I-70 near Georgetown and Silverthorne.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Denver/Boulder, snow accumulation, gusty winds, and limited visibility are creating treacherous driving conditions on mountain roads. Cameras show near-whiteout conditions near Eisenhower Tunnel and Muddy Pass, prompting officials to urge drivers to travel only if absolutely necessary. If you must drive, reduce speed, allow extra travel time, and prepare for delays.

Monday’s forecast for Denver includes patchy blowing dust through early afternoon and strong winds with gusts up to 41 mph. Temperatures will peak at 47°F before dropping to a low of 18°F overnight, with calmer winds expected by evening.

Looking ahead, Tuesday will bring clear skies and mild conditions with a high near 36°F. New Year’s Day remains sunny and dry, with highs reaching 42°F in Denver. However, mountain regions may see continued snowfall, affecting travel into the weekend.

Stay updated by checking weather.gov for the latest road conditions and closures. Travelers should carry winter safety kits, including blankets and water, and monitor live traffic updates for detour options.
