Davenport, IA – Dense fog continues to blanket eastern Iowa this morning, reducing visibility and creating hazardous driving conditions on I-80. The National Weather Service has issued a Dense Fog Advisory until noon Monday, warning drivers to slow down and use low-beam headlights.
According to the National Weather Service, visibility may drop to near zero in areas north of I-80. The advisory could expand further south and east tonight as fog persists. Motorists are urged to exercise caution and allow extra time for travel, particularly along major roadways.
Conditions will begin to change late Monday evening as a winter weather system brings rain, transitioning to a rain-snow mix after 11 p.m. Overnight lows will dip to 34°F, with gusty winds reaching up to 25 mph. Snowfall is expected through early Tuesday morning, with minor accumulations of less than an inch.
Looking ahead to New Year’s Eve, Tuesday will bring cloudy skies and a high of 38°F. Rain and snow could impact travel during the day, with slick roads likely during the evening hours. New Year’s Day on Wednesday will be mostly sunny but significantly colder, with highs near 29°F.
Eastern Iowa residents should prepare for variable road conditions throughout the week. Be sure to monitor forecasts and adjust plans accordingly.
