Grand Junction, CO – A quick-hitting winter storm is forecast to impact northern Colorado Monday evening, with snow accumulation likely along the I-70 corridor and surrounding mountain ranges. Meteorologists warn that snow totals could reach up to 6 inches in higher elevations, potentially creating hazardous travel conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, snowfall will begin late Monday and linger into Tuesday morning. Temperatures will drop 10 to 15 degrees below normal during this period, with daytime highs struggling to reach the upper 30s. Areas at higher altitudes will see colder conditions, while valleys remain several degrees warmer.

Travelers on I-70 and adjacent highways should prepare for reduced visibility and slick roads Monday night into Tuesday morning. Drivers are encouraged to monitor conditions closely and carry emergency supplies, as road impacts may worsen overnight.

The storm is expected to clear out by late Tuesday, leaving behind colder but dry weather. The remainder of the week in western Colorado will feature mostly sunny skies with temperatures gradually climbing back to seasonal norms by Friday.

Looking ahead, forecasters suggest a second round of snow could develop next weekend, bringing additional accumulation and colder air. Residents are advised to stay updated on evolving weather patterns.

Be sure to dress warmly and drive cautiously if heading into the mountains this week.
