Pueblo, CO – Heavy snow and gusty winds are expected to hit Colorado’s mountains and the I-25 corridor starting Monday night, just as Thanksgiving week travel begins to peak. Snowfall is forecast to intensify through Tuesday and Wednesday, creating hazardous conditions along the Palmer Divide and Raton Mesa.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Pueblo, 4 to 6 inches of snow is likely in higher elevations, with central mountain areas facing the heaviest accumulation. Travelers on I-25 should prepare for reduced visibility and icy conditions, particularly from northern El Paso County through southern Las Animas County. Light snow may extend to Teller County but will likely result in minimal accumulations.
Gusty west-southwest winds, reaching 5 to 15 mph, will accompany the storm on Monday, bringing a 10-degree drop in temperatures across the region. Tuesday’s high in Pueblo is expected to hit 47°F before conditions deteriorate Tuesday night, with snow showers developing and lows near 31°F.
Midweek snow showers could create challenging conditions for Thanksgiving travelers, especially during peak hours on Wednesday night. Commuters and holiday travelers are advised to check updated forecasts and road conditions on cotrip.org before planning their routes.
By Thanksgiving Day, conditions are expected to improve, with sunny skies and a high near 39°F in most areas. However, the earlier part of the week demands caution. Officials urge residents to keep emergency kits in their vehicles and allow extra time for travel.
