Grand Junction, Colorado – Another sweltering day is in store for western Colorado, but increasing moisture from the south is expected to trigger afternoon storms, particularly in the high country.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, scattered showers and thunderstorms will become more widespread through Thursday, especially across the higher terrain of eastern Utah and western Colorado. Storm threats include gusty outflow winds, small hail, frequent lightning, and isolated bursts of heavy rain.
Tuesday temperatures are peaking near 100°F in Moab and Grand Junction, with upper 90s stretching across Montrose, Delta, and Vernal. Rain chances are strongest over the San Juan Mountains and into the Roan Plateau, where isolated storms could turn severe. Slick roads and brief flooding are possible in low-lying areas.
Residents are urged to avoid outdoor activities during peak lightning hours and secure loose outdoor items due to strong winds. With more clouds and rain chances each day, daytime highs will gradually dip after midweek.
Storm coverage is expected to decrease following the Fourth of July, but daily risks remain through the holiday.
