Albany, N.Y. – Strong thunderstorms with heavy rainfall could sweep across eastern New York Tuesday as a cold front pushes through the region, bringing a brief but potent round of severe weather.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, scattered showers and thunderstorms—some strong to severe—are expected throughout the day, particularly during the afternoon and early evening. Rainfall may be locally heavy, with warm and humid conditions pushing highs into the mid-70s to lower 80s across the higher terrain and upper 80s in the valleys.

Communities including Albany, Saratoga Springs, and Poughkeepsie may see brief gusty winds, lightning, and ponding on roads during intense downpours. Cooler air will move in overnight as storms taper off, with lows dipping into the 50s and 60s, offering some overnight relief from the heat.

By Wednesday, conditions improve significantly. Skies turn partly sunny with much lower humidity and highs ranging from the lower 70s in the Adirondacks to near 85°F in the Hudson Valley.

Residents are advised to secure outdoor items, stay off roads during downpours, and monitor alerts through Tuesday evening.

Further updates are expected as the front passes. Storms should fully exit the region by early Wednesday morning.
