Colorado – Light snowflakes drift across the Front Range early this MLK Day, brushing windshields and rooftops before fading under a brightening sky. Cold air lingers at sunrise, but change is already in motion across southern Colorado.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, light snow is possible this morning, mainly north of Colorado Springs toward Monument and the Palmer Divide. Any accumulation stays minimal, generally a trace to one inch. Roads may briefly turn slick before conditions improve by late morning as snow exits the region.
Temperatures start the day near the upper teens, with wind chills making it feel colder in exposed areas. Sunshine builds through the afternoon, allowing highs near 39 degrees in Colorado Springs. Crews and drivers should still watch bridges and shaded roads for brief icy patches early, especially along I-25 and Highway 24.
Tonight turns mostly clear and cold again, with lows near 19 degrees. Tuesday marks a sharp shift. Westerly winds usher in much warmer air, pushing afternoon highs into the mid-50s. Snowmelt during the day could refreeze after sunset, creating isolated slick spots where water pools.
By Wednesday, the warming trend continues. Highs reach the lower 50s again under sunny skies, while very dry air and gusty winds raise concerns for elevated fire weather along the mountain-plains interface. Outdoor burning could spread quickly in gap-prone areas west and south of the city.
Looking ahead, long-range outlooks suggest near-normal precipitation but continued temperature swings across Colorado. Another round of colder air may arrive later in the week, bringing additional snow chances by Friday.
Heading out today? Use caution early, dress in layers, and stay alert for changing road conditions. Noticing slick spots or snow bursts near you? Let us know what you’re seeing.
