Grand Junction, Colo. – Scattered thunderstorms are developing across Colorado’s mountain regions this afternoon, bringing the threat of lightning and strong outflow winds through Wednesday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, storms will primarily impact higher elevations from the San Juans to the Elk and Flat Tops ranges, with localized downpours and wind gusts topping 40 mph possible. Lightning will be the main hazard, especially for hikers and campers in exposed terrain.

Temperatures remain seasonable across much of western Colorado today and Thursday, with highs in the 70s and low 80s in Grand Junction, Glenwood Springs, and Steamboat Springs. Eastern valleys, including Montrose and Delta, may see slightly warmer highs near 85°F.

Drivers along I-70 through Eagle and Garfield counties should remain alert for sudden visibility drops and slick roads during storm bursts. Outdoor recreationists are urged to seek shelter quickly at the first sign of thunder and avoid ridge lines.

Conditions are expected to dry out by Friday, with hotter-than-normal temperatures returning for the weekend, especially in the Western Slope.
