Denver, CO – Colorado residents are advised to prepare for scattered thunderstorms expected to develop this afternoon and evening. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Boulder has warned that a few of these storms could be severe, bringing the potential for 1-inch hail and winds gusting up to 60 mph. While the more intense storms pose significant risks, most areas will experience weaker storms with gusty winds around 40 mph, brief heavy rain, and small hail.
According to the NWS, the primary concerns include localized flash flooding, especially in burn scar areas, and the potential for hail damage. The storms are part of a broader weather pattern that also brings a limited flash flood threat to burn areas, which can result in sudden and dangerous conditions.
In addition to the storm risk, Denver is expected to reach a high of 95°F today, with similar temperatures forecasted for Wednesday. Cooler temperatures will follow later in the week, with highs dropping into the mid-70s by Thursday and Friday, along with a chance of showers.
Residents are urged to stay updated on the latest weather conditions and take necessary precautions, particularly if traveling or engaging in outdoor activities during the peak storm hours this afternoon.
