Denver, CO – Gusty winds sweeping across eastern Colorado on Monday could escalate fire danger to critical levels, especially in and around the Denver metro area. Afternoon wind gusts up to 25 mph may combine with dry conditions to heighten wildfire risk, particularly on the plains.
According to the National Weather Service in Boulder, winds will pick up late Monday morning and persist into the afternoon, with the highest threat concentrated in northeast and north central counties including Arapahoe, Adams, Weld, and Elbert. No fire weather warnings have been issued yet, but officials urge residents to avoid outdoor burning and secure loose items.
Cities like Aurora, Brighton, and Greeley may see rapidly shifting conditions, while Jefferson and Douglas counties will feel lighter, variable wind patterns into Tuesday. Rain is not expected to bring relief until midweek, with a 40% chance of showers and isolated thunderstorms returning Wednesday night through Friday.
Coloradans are encouraged to remain alert, especially when using grills or power tools outdoors. Dry fuels and wind can cause fires to spread quickly.
Elevated fire conditions are expected to last through Monday, with showers and storms developing later in the week. More updates may follow if Red Flag Warnings are issued.
