Grand Junction, CO — A powerful cold snap will sweep into western Colorado Tuesday night, triggering a Freeze Watch for Grand Junction and the surrounding Grand Valley region. Overnight lows are expected to plummet into the mid-20s, threatening crops, exposed plumbing, and sensitive vegetation.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, the Freeze Watch goes into effect Tuesday at 10 p.m. and lasts until 10 a.m. Wednesday. Cities including Fruita, Palisade, and Whitewater are under the alert, with wind gusts up to 25 mph compounding the cold. Residents are urged to cover plants, drain outdoor pipes, and avoid unnecessary outdoor exposure overnight.

Rain and snow showers will begin Tuesday afternoon, with a chance of thunderstorms before 9 p.m. By late evening, precipitation will taper off, but skies will clear and allow rapid temperature drops.
